Study Abroad

Information for Studying Abroad.

If I want to make this available to my students for the upcoming summer what do I do to get started?

  • Decide whether you want to offer the curriculum, or have it taught through Flagler College.
  • Contact SMTA for details and additional information. SEE CONTACT PAGE
  • Spread the exciting news to your students. SMTA will send you a pack of promotional information for you to distribute to faculty and students.

How many students do we need to make the trip happen?

Any number is possible. This will depend on whether the student enrolls through Flagler College or through their own institution. If students enroll through Flagler College, any number is reasonable from 1-100. If students enroll at their own institution the number will depend on the class minimums and caps that are established at each institution. If you are interested in conducting your own class and traveling with SMTA, you will need a minimum of 15 students. An incentive program based on the number of students enrolled from your institution is available.

What is the duration of the trip to Australia?

Our typical trip, which other schools have taken in the past, is 18 nights. We can however organize shorter or longer trips if requested.

Can the academic portion be offered at any institution other than Flagler College?

YES. Institutions can offer their own International Sport Management class and leave the tour portion to SMTA. We will organize the tourism aspect of your trip and also compliment your academic content with appropriate sport management site visits in Australia. We do suggest that you have some type of journal or business assessment as an assignment for students to complete during their time in Australia.

Is there an opportunity for this to work with less than 15 students?

Yes. There are two avenues for this to be achieved. One, groups of less than 15 students could enroll in the Flagler College summer class. Or two, faculty who wish to offer their own class would be responsible for variable costs. This would be adjusted either as an increased package price per student and/or a variable package price for the traveling faculty member. That discounted price is based on a sliding scale which would be determined by the number of students recruited. See incentive program or contact our office for details.

Is the curriculum/class set?

No. If it is your class and your academic credit that students are earning, you will establish the curriculum. We then provide a tour and appropriate site visits in Australia so that faculty can achieve the academic goals of the home institution. However, for students participating through Flagler College, the curriculum is set and you or your institution would be responsible for approving the class offered at Flagler and the transfer of credit.

Does SMTA provide promotional material?

Yes. After initial contact, we send a promotional packet to faculty in order to assist with promoting the class on campus.

Can SMTA help set-up curriculum for an appropriate class to Australia?

Absolutely! If the faculty is interested in creating a class specific for the Australian trip, we can offer suggestions as well as provide information and class curriculums from past groups.

Do we cater for individual students?

YES. We work with the Flagler College Sport Management Department. They offer a summer, web-based Australian Sport Management study abroad class, which offers transferable credit hours pending approval by the student's home institution.
